European students
European students can use Spain’s public healthcare system with their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The process is simple:
- Before travelling Request your EHIC in your home country.
- After arriving in Zaragoza Go to the health center assigned to your Spanish address to activate your healthcare file. Bring:
- EHIC
- Passport or national ID
- NIE resolution or proof of application (the document from your first Extranjería appointment is accepted)
- Find your assigned health center Use the official Aragón Health Service locator: 👉 Find your health center
Once registered, you will be assigned a primary care doctor and can use public healthcare during your stay in Spain.
Non-European Union students
Non-European students must arrive in Spain with a private health insurance policy that covers the entire duration of their stay. This insurance replaces access to the public healthcare system and is required for the student visa application at the Spanish Consulate.
- Before travelling Obtain a private health insurance policy that meets Spanish visa requirements. Your insurance provider must offer coverage in Spain.
- After arriving in Zaragoza Your medical assistance will be provided through the hospitals and clinics associated with your private insurance. Ask your insurance company for the list of partner health centers in Spain.
