Summary:

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has identified that Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are one of the most common work-related ailments. Throughout Europe they affect millions of workers and cost employers billions of euros. Tackling MSDs help to improve workers´ lives, but it also makes good business sense.

The Knowledge Alliance (KA) Prevent4Work for Preventing Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (hereinafter WMSDs) aims at establishing a network which will develop innovative educational programmes, adaptive mHealth (mobile health) tools, high quality evidence-based material and actions that can be implemented in EU to prevent WMSDs, addressing the gap in learning programmes that focus on occupational health, with participation of HEIs, ITC enterprise, educational SMEs and clinical expertise (Prevent4Work Observatory). The target groups are workers and enterprises from different sectors of activity, trainers, health professionals, HEIs and other stakeholders.

These measures will consist in 3 Congresses in Italy, Denmark and Spain, including 1 Ideas Contest; 4 one-day workshops for trainers and health professionals; 3 workshops for workers; 6 blended and online training courses; 1 practical guideline for trainers and 1 strategic guideline for integration the courses into Universities Curricula.

mHealth Training Platform will enhance knowledge spread through improving the users´ access to all the training materials, and 2 MOOCs to disseminate the results during and after the end of the project. mHealth APP will facilitate an active role from users, based on personalized risk assessment (bio-psycho-social factors, and will allow a follow-up of the users, getting data.

The use of Big Data from the mHealth tools opens a big opportunity to progress to adaptive training platforms that can offer updated and tailored teaching and training, under the basis of «more users, more data and then better feedback to allow personalized attention».

Both mHealth tools and materials will be tested and validated through Prevent4Work project activities: 3 pilot actions, with participation of 1500 workers from different economic sectors, and 3 scientific publications.

The EU-OSHA recommends the combination of risk assessment and employment participation to have a real impact on prevention. An impact-driven multi-sector approach is necessary to develop innovative programmes and materials that can be accessible for the society, through their employers and for self-consumption at home via mobile devices. All the main Prevent4Work results obtained during the project will be accessible online with none restriction, Open Educational Resources (OER).
