Faculty of Communication lecturer and researcher Pilar Irala has recently embarked on a four month research scholarship at the Centre for Visual Studies at Sheffield University thanks to a research grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

During her stay in the United Kingdom, until the end of August, Pilar will be working on a research project entitled “Visual Culture and Rhetorical Communication”. The aim of the project is to examine the relationship between photography and visual rhetoric.

Nursing lecturer Raúl Juárez has recently visited the NHL University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden, Holland through the Erasmus+ exchange programme for teaching staff. During his stay Raúl gave classes to Nursing students on healthy ageing and self-care, focusing on patients with heart problems. He also had the opportunity to meet with Ate Dijkstra, creator of the Health Dependency Scale with the idea of integrating the methodology into training programmes in Spain.

Raúl was lucky enough to be in Holland for the Dutch national holiday that celebrates King’s Day.

Congratulations to Dr. José María Albalad from our Faculty of Communication who has just become the first International Doctor in Communication from an Aragonese PhD programme.

Chema successfully defended his thesis ‘Analysis of Internet-based editorial models for literary journalism’ which reflected his research work carried out in Spain, United States and Argentina.

Our Sports Sciences programme last week hosted Dr. Dominic Malcolm, Senior Lecturer in the Sociology of Sport at Loughborough University, one of the UK’s leading teaching and research universities in the area of sports sciences.

Dr. Nick Mitchell, Senior Lecturer in Computer Games Development at our partner institution, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in the United Kingdom, was last week at our Polytechnic School through the Erasmus+ teaching exchange programme.

Nick worked in class with our Videogames Design and Development students, leading sessions on game engines and on games applications for mobile devices and also had the chance to meet up with colleagues to discuss possible joint projects and collaborative activities between the two universities.

This week we have welcomed three representatives from one of our partner universities in Mexico, Universidad Cristobal Colón. Leonardo Perez, Enna Ladrón de Guevera and Patricia Carranza de la Parra are currently in Zaragoza working on an online project with our sister organisation, SEAS, and took time out to have a look around the University. Welcome to Zaragoza!

Last week we welcomed two visiting Nursing lecturers from the Lapland University of Applied Sciences in Finland through the Erasmus+ programme. Raija Seppanen and Anja Annikki Mikkola talked to students and staff about the culture and beauty of their Nordic homeland and took part in classes for our undergraduate Nursing students and for students of our Master’s programme in Research for Health Sciences where they explained the different ways that Nursing can be approached in other countries.

Well done to Physiotherapy student Julien Lastineres who will be playing professional rugby in France next season after signing for Tarbes rugby club to form part of their B team.
Julien will be finishing his Physiotherapy degree this summer after spending four years away from his native France to study at San Jorge.

Last Friday our Institute of Modern Languages organised the first edition of the CCSE tests as official examining centre. The tests are coordinated by Instituto Cervantes and assess the candidates’ knowledge of the Spanish constitution and social and cultural aspects of Spain. It must be passed, along with the DELE A2 Spanish exam for those who are not native Spanish speakers, in order to successfully apply for Spanish citizenship.

We welcomed a total of 26 candidates from many different countries, good luck to all of them!
