Visiting lecturers from Japan

Two English language lecturers from Japanese universities have visited the university this week as part of their research work into Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in higher education.

Yoko Kusomoto from J.F.Oberlin University, near Tokyo, and Monica Hamciuc, originally from Rumania and currently teaching at Miyazaki International College, have had the opportunity to interview both teaching staff and students about their experience of using English in the classroom, observe teaching activity and also to study protocols in place at San Jorge for training lecturers in CLIL methodology and for reviewing the quality of teaching with CLIL content. Both also took part in guest teaching sessions on our Business Administration programme.

The visit has been hosted and coordinated by our colleague Fiona Crean from the Institute of Modern Languages who now hopes to establish strong ties with both Japanese institutions which will lead to further teaching exchanges and research work into the integration of English into the classroom.
